Backpacking Buckskin Gulch

October 18, 2016

Backpacking buckskin gulch paria river southern utah

This is an amazing 4 day backpack trip starting in Buckskin Gulch near Wire pass in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. Buckskin Gulch is North Americas longest slot canyon with amazing light, serious narrows and it terminates into the Paria River which is another beautiful desert river. After traveling the length of Buckskin gulch you walk the Paria downstream until you meet the Colorado River at Lees Ferry which is the put in for Grand Canyon River runners. Shuttles are recommended as the drive from Lees Ferry to Wire Pass is long and hot with many miles on a relatively good but very dusty dirt road. See Betty at End of the Trail Shuttles – she was very knowledgeable about the area, showed us some petroglyphs and very friendly to boot. See Map
