This was one of the best trips we have had in quite some time and really tested both our vehicles and gear. We moved our camp daily for over 2 weeks, spent hundreds of miles on dirt roads and 4x4 tracks, and really tested the capability of our vehicles after a significant tropical storm and subsequent flash flood. We mountain biked, hiked and explored canyons and mesas until dark daily. This daily movement really tested our ability to quickly set up and breakdown camp and using the final iteration of our Camp Kitchen and a prototype of the Hot Water Workstation made things easier than ever. Elevations ranged from 2,000 ft to over 9,000 ft, as we alternately tried to stay cool and warm through the typical temperature swings of fall. This trip solidified our desire to always have an outdoor hot water system with us as we could easily roll the unit between a private showering spot and the kitchen area for washing hands and for dish cleanup. (In fact, we have a built in hot water system in our Sportsmobile 4x4 van that we never used on this trip)
The convenience of camp set up, organization of our kitchen gear and general ease of living outdoors really solidified our confidence that Trail Kitchens products has a future. It also made us realize that an ultra compact version of the hot water workstation would be desirable to us and our future customers. You can also see from these pictures that the final Hot Water Workstation is less than half the size of the original prototypes. Space is always at a premium on these types of adventures and the compactness of the units really made a difference. With additional space in our vehicles freed up, we could now carry more food, beer, wine and water!
